Teen-agers' letters home are the same the universe over. A brief description of the wedding of her sister, an explanation of why she and her older brother will not be returning home until spring and then the bomb-shell.Her talent has developed and she hastens to assure him that "it won't be nearly as inconvenient" as that of her brothers and sisters. A wise father will have steeled himself for what follows -- plans for the construction needed to house her new 'friends'.
The Darkover series was begun in 1960 by the late Marion Zimmer Bradley and has been continued since her death by a number of authors. It still has a slight feel of 60's science fiction, but writers like Waters or Mercedes Lackey easily overcome that. In this case, the feel is very slight.
